Abstract— We present numerical techniques that allowefficient modeling of the transport of broadband servicesover fiber-optic links in access networks using varioustechnologies. Application examples of Hybrid Fiber Coax(HFC), Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) systems and 10-Gb/sEthernet transport over multimode fiber are provided todemonstrate the value of simulation during the R&D anddeployment phases of product introduction. Index Terms— Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC), Radio over Fiber(RoF), 10-Gb/s Ethernet, broadband access, Self PhaseModulation (SPM), Rayleigh backscattering (RBS),Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS).
