Abstract—Mobile sensor networks are distributed collections of nodes, each of which has sensing, computation, communication capabilities, while some of which have locomotion capabilities. Mobility enhances the efficiency and accomplishment of sensor net work. Controllable mobility can help sensor network perform active sensing. The paper presents an extensive survey of controllable mobility for active sensing of mobile sensor network in various research areas such as mobile sensor network localization, simultaneous localization and mapping, area exploration, area coverage, target detection and tracking and monitoring of spatio-temporal dynamics in large environments.
